Peering through the blinds
I see
only my own feet reflected
in the smudged pane. The room
across the drive is faintly lit
but no silhouettes walk by tonight.
A murmur from below whispers through the floor,
the street still slips quietly by.
It snakes through my memory as I pause
a moment too long before returning
to lie down, to purge all thought,
drown, and disappear.
